The awning window is a window cover that resembles an awning. Awnings are used to shade buildings from the sun, by extending out from their sides, or roofs, in such a way as to shade the entrances and windows of buildings
Awning windows can be fitted with a crank which can be used by any person to open it, even if they are not at home. The crank also makes it possible for you to use your window even when you are away from home. In some cases, this feature may be useful if you want to keep an eye on your house while you are away on vacation or business trip
Awning windows are fitted into existing window frames; however, they can also be installed as stand alone units. They come in two different styles
- Full Awning Window - This type of awning window has no frame around it and extends all the way to the top of the window frame so that it will cover most of your window frame
- Partial Awning Window - This type of awning has no frame around it and extends only part way up so that there is still some space left
