Fixed Casement Windows: A Stylish and Functional Choice for Your Home

Fixed casement windows have become increasingly popular among homeowners and interior designers. These windows are not only visually appealing but also provide a variety of functional benefits. In this blog post, we will explore the different styles of fixed casement windows, their advantages, and how to choose the perfect one for your home.

What are Fixed Casement Windows?

Fixed casement windows, also known as picture windows, are stationary windows that do not open or close. They are typically designed with a large glass area to provide an unobstructed view of the outdoors. These windows are often used in combination with other window types, such as double-hung or sliding windows, to create a unique and functional design.

Advantages of Fixed Casement Windows

There are several benefits to incorporating fixed casement windows into your home's design. Some of the most notable advantages include:

1. Natural Light: Fixed casement windows allow for an abundance of natural light to enter your home, creating a bright and inviting atmosphere. This can help reduce your reliance on artificial lighting and potentially lower your energy bills.

2. Unobstructed Views: The large glass area of fixed casement windows provides a clear and unobstructed view of your outdoor surroundings. This can be especially beneficial if you have a beautiful landscape or a stunning view that you want to showcase.

3. Energy Efficiency: Fixed casement windows are highly energy-efficient due to their airtight seal. Since they do not open, there are no gaps for air to escape or enter your home. This can help keep your home at a comfortable temperature and reduce your heating and cooling costs.

4. Low Maintenance: Since fixed casement windows do not have any moving parts, they require very little maintenance. You will not need to worry about lubricating hinges or replacing worn-out hardware.

5. Versatility: Fixed casement windows are available in a variety of styles, sizes, and materials, making it easy to find the perfect window to suit your home's design and your personal preferences.

Different Styles of Fixed Casement Windows

There are several styles of fixed casement windows to choose from, each offering its unique aesthetic appeal. Some popular styles include:

1. Traditional: Traditional fixed casement windows feature a simple and timeless design that complements a variety of architectural styles. They typically have a rectangular shape and a classic wooden frame.

2. Modern: Modern fixed casement windows are characterized by their sleek and minimalist design. They often feature slim frames made from materials like aluminum or vinyl and may have unique shapes, such as trapezoids or circles.

3. Transom: Transom windows are small fixed casement windows that are placed above doors or other windows to allow additional light into a room. They can be used to create a unique design element while also providing functional benefits.

4. Arched: Arched fixed casement windows feature a curved top, adding an elegant and sophisticated touch to your home's design. These windows can be used as a standalone design feature or in combination with other window types to create a stunning focal point.

5. Stained Glass: Stained glass fixed casement windows incorporate colorful and intricate designs that can add a touch of artistry to your home. These windows can be custom-made to suit your specific design preferences and can be used to create a unique and eye-catching focal point.

Choosing the Perfect Fixed Casement Window for Your Home

When selecting fixed casement windows for your home, consider the following factors:

1. Size: Choose a window size that is proportional to your room and complements your home's overall design.

2. Style: Select a window style that matches your home's architectural style and your personal design preferences.

3. Material: Consider the material of the window frame, taking into account factors such as durability, maintenance, and energy efficiency. Common materials include wood, aluminum, and vinyl.

4. Glass Type: Choose a glass type that meets your specific needs, such as energy efficiency, privacy, or noise reduction. Options include double-glazed, triple-glazed, or laminated glass.

5. Placement: Determine the optimal placement of your fixed casement window to maximize natural light and take advantage of any stunning views.

In summary, fixed casement windows are a stylish and functional choice for any home. With their ability to provide natural light, unobstructed views, and energy efficiency, they offer numerous benefits to homeowners. By considering the various styles available and the factors to take into account when choosing the perfect window, you can create a stunning and functional design element in your home.

INSPIRATION & SOLUTION

This newly built private house is in Sydney, Australia. The area occupied by the fenestration system in our scheduled design drawings was up to more than 110 square meters. A wide range of design details made the perfect mix of modern aesthetics and traditional sophistication, the simulated vertical hung windows with tilt & turn opening systems in this home are absolutely breathtaking. SDLS (Simulated Divided Lites with Spacer Bar) brings some historical vintage feeling to the whole building without losing any energy saving performance. Long narrow fixed windows creating larger-than-life expenses, coupled with German high-end systems made this project stand out from the rest.

Simulated Hung Window with Tilt & Turn Openings

The client's idea was to maintain a certain vintage feel, and our aim was to meet the energy efficiency needs and standards of modern houses as much as possible while maintaining a retro design. Doorwin’s 61S simulated hung windows with tilt & turn openings is a respectful modernization of a classic architectural masterwork.

Why choose the tilt and turn opening method?

Because it generally has better air seals than sliding, single hung, or double hung window frames. Tilt and turn windows form a complete seal when fully closed, this means they are less prone to water leakage, and cold draughts and you’ll keep more of your heating indoors where it belongs. They can be opened in the upper tilt way to ventilate at a minimum opening status and are easy to clean outside of the glass; when there’s a good day, they can be opened as normal inward casement windows.

Large Energy Efficient Fixed Windows

Our well-crafted bespoke systems enhance the functionality and panoramic view of this modern house.

Huge, fixed glass walls up to seven meters long and two meters high bring great lighting and open views, making it really refreshing to the mind. Five meters high long narrow windows give the whole building a contemporary aesthetic.

Every window’s placement and shape not only add to the uniqueness of this home but also provide a more energy-saving ability for the owners.

Doorwin energy-efficient integrated glazing units feature double-pane glass, warm-edge spacers, argon gas fill, Low-E coatings, and fully tempered glass, they can not only create a comfortable and natural indoor environment but also save electricity bills and heating bills of more than 100 USD for the owner, it’s a real bargain compared to choosing a regular glazing set.

Custom Designed Thermal Break Aluminum Entry Door

Aluminum Door offered an air of uniqueness and elegance to a home. With their luxurious patterns and beautiful finishes, it provides this house with a bounty of aesthetics and security. Aluminum entry doors allow you to resist any weather extremes, corrosion, and pests. So aluminum is one of the most resilient and durable materials you can select for front doors considering the price/performance ratio.

With pieces of double panes, and Low-E tempered glass. The door provides a good insulation performance.

Custom Designed Grilles and Transom

Divided lite windows and doors offer unique architectural solutions for buildings without compromising energy efficiency or aesthetics. Doorwin provides multiple muntin and glass options to customize your divided lite windows and doors. Further customization is available with a variety of colors and materials, creating an infinite number of design combinations to best suit your style.

In this project, we use SDLS (simulated divided lites with spacer bars), these bars permanently adhere to both sides of the glass, and spacer bars are installed between the glass, this is the most energy-efficient way to create the look of classical décor grilles. The windows in the bathroom bedroom and study have an Arch Transom Design, making these rooms, which are often used by the owner, have some traditional aesthetics.

Multi-point lock systems provide not only the burglar-resistance but also a tighter compression seam, making the window keeps good energy-efficient performance. Together with Technoform Bautec’s insulation edge bond and sealant strips, these make up our products' top insulation and energy-saving performance.
