With the sash removed, you can now access the glazing that holds the window pane in place. Using a putty knife, gently pry away the glazing from the edges of the window pane. If the pane is broken or cracked, you will need to carefully remove the remaining pieces using a utility knife and putty knife. Be sure to dispose of the broken glass safely.
With the window pane removed, take the time to clean the window sash thoroughly. Use a utility knife to remove any remaining glazing or debris from the sash, and then clean the area with glass cleaner and a clean cloth or paper towel. This will ensure a proper seal when installing the new window pane.
Now that the window sash is clean, you can install the new window pane. Place the pane into the sash, ensuring that it sits evenly within the frame. If necessary, use glazing points or clips to hold the pane in place.
With the new window pane in place, apply a bead of glazing putty or caulk around the edges of the pane to create a seal. Use a putty knife to smooth the putty or caulk, removing any excess material. Allow the glazing to dry according to the manufacturer's instructions.
Once the glazing has dried, you can reinstall the window sash. Align the sash with the frame and reattach the hinge screws, ensuring that the window opens and closes smoothly. If necessary, make any adjustments to the hardware for proper alignment.
Finally, clean the newly installed window pane with glass cleaner and a clean cloth or paper towel to remove any fingerprints or smudges. Your casement window pane replacement is now complete!
