Maximizing Ventilation and Style: The 90 Degree Casement Window Revolution

When it comes to window design, casement windows have always been a popular choice for homeowners and architects alike. These windows are hinged on one side and swing open like a door, providing excellent ventilation and unobstructed views. But what if we told you that there's a new twist on this classic design that can elevate your home's aesthetics and functionality even further? Enter the 90 degree casement window, a revolution in window design that combines the best of both worlds. In this blog post, we'll explore the benefits and unique features of 90 degree casement windows, as well as provide some design inspiration for incorporating them into your home.

The 90 Degree Difference

Traditional casement windows are hinged at a 90 degree angle, allowing them to open fully and provide maximum ventilation. However, this also means that the window sash protrudes outward, which can be a concern for those with limited outdoor space or who want to maintain a sleek exterior appearance. The 90 degree casement window solves this issue by featuring a unique hinge system that allows the window to open completely flush with the wall, creating a seamless transition between the interior and exterior of your home.

Enhanced Ventilation and Energy Efficiency

One of the main advantages of 90 degree casement windows is their ability to provide superior ventilation compared to other window styles. When fully open, these windows create a large, unobstructed opening that allows fresh air to flow freely into your home. This not only helps to reduce indoor air pollution and improve overall air quality, but it can also help to lower your energy bills by reducing the need for air conditioning during the warmer months.

In addition to their ventilation benefits, 90 degree casement windows are also highly energy-efficient. Their tight seal when closed prevents drafts and air leakage, which can help to keep your home warmer during the winter months and cooler during the summer. Many 90 degree casement windows are also available with double or triple glazing options, further enhancing their energy-saving capabilities.

Aesthetic Appeal and Design Flexibility

The sleek, modern design of 90 degree casement windows makes them a perfect addition to any contemporary home. With their clean lines and minimalist aesthetic, these windows can seamlessly blend into your home's architecture while still providing a striking visual impact. Furthermore, the flush opening of the window allows for a more streamlined exterior appearance, creating a cohesive look that's sure to impress.

90 degree casement windows also offer a high degree of design flexibility, allowing you to customize their size, shape, and configuration to suit your specific needs and preferences. Whether you're looking to create a dramatic floor-to-ceiling window wall or simply want to replace a single window, there's a 90 degree casement window solution to fit your vision.

Safety and Security

In addition to their aesthetic and functional benefits, 90 degree casement windows also provide a high level of safety and security. When closed, the window sash locks tightly into the frame, making it difficult for potential intruders to pry open. Additionally, many 90 degree casement windows are equipped with multi-point locking systems for added security.

The flush opening design of these windows also eliminates the risk of injury from a protruding window sash, making them a safe option for homes with children or pets. Plus, the easy-to-operate crank handle allows for quick and effortless opening and closing, ensuring that you can always access fresh air and natural light when desired.

Incorporating 90 Degree Casement Windows Into Your Home

There are countless ways to incorporate 90 degree casement windows into your home, whether you're building from scratch or looking to update your existing space. Here are a few ideas to get you started:

Create a stunning window wall by installing a series of 90 degree casement windows side by side, allowing for an expansive view and ample natural light.

Install a 90 degree casement window in your kitchen or dining area to create an indoor-outdoor connection, perfect for entertaining or enjoying a meal al fresco.

Use a 90 degree casement window to replace a traditional window in your living room or bedroom, providing a fresh, modern update while still maintaining the room's original charm.

Combine 90 degree casement windows with other window styles, such as picture windows or sliding glass doors, to create a unique and dynamic look that reflects your personal style.

In conclusion, 90 degree casement windows are a versatile and innovative solution for homeowners looking to enhance their home's aesthetics, functionality, and energy efficiency. With their unique design, superior ventilation capabilities, and countless customization options, these windows are truly a game-changer in the world of window design.

INSPIRATION & SOLUTION

This newly built private house is in Sydney, Australia. The area occupied by the fenestration system in our scheduled design drawings was up to more than 110 square meters. A wide range of design details made the perfect mix of modern aesthetics and traditional sophistication, the simulated vertical hung windows with tilt & turn opening systems in this home are absolutely breathtaking. SDLS (Simulated Divided Lites with Spacer Bar) brings some historical vintage feeling to the whole building without losing any energy saving performance. Long narrow fixed windows creating larger-than-life expenses, coupled with German high-end systems made this project stand out from the rest.

Simulated Hung Window with Tilt & Turn Openings

The client's idea was to maintain a certain vintage feel, and our aim was to meet the energy efficiency needs and standards of modern houses as much as possible while maintaining a retro design. Doorwin’s 61S simulated hung windows with tilt & turn openings is a respectful modernization of a classic architectural masterwork.

Why choose the tilt and turn opening method?

Because it generally has better air seals than sliding, single hung, or double hung window frames. Tilt and turn windows form a complete seal when fully closed, this means they are less prone to water leakage, and cold draughts and you’ll keep more of your heating indoors where it belongs. They can be opened in the upper tilt way to ventilate at a minimum opening status and are easy to clean outside of the glass; when there’s a good day, they can be opened as normal inward casement windows.

Large Energy Efficient Fixed Windows

Our well-crafted bespoke systems enhance the functionality and panoramic view of this modern house.

Huge, fixed glass walls up to seven meters long and two meters high bring great lighting and open views, making it really refreshing to the mind. Five meters high long narrow windows give the whole building a contemporary aesthetic.

Every window’s placement and shape not only add to the uniqueness of this home but also provide a more energy-saving ability for the owners.

Doorwin energy-efficient integrated glazing units feature double-pane glass, warm-edge spacers, argon gas fill, Low-E coatings, and fully tempered glass, they can not only create a comfortable and natural indoor environment but also save electricity bills and heating bills of more than 100 USD for the owner, it’s a real bargain compared to choosing a regular glazing set.

Custom Designed Thermal Break Aluminum Entry Door

Aluminum Door offered an air of uniqueness and elegance to a home. With their luxurious patterns and beautiful finishes, it provides this house with a bounty of aesthetics and security. Aluminum entry doors allow you to resist any weather extremes, corrosion, and pests. So aluminum is one of the most resilient and durable materials you can select for front doors considering the price/performance ratio.

With pieces of double panes, and Low-E tempered glass. The door provides a good insulation performance.

Custom Designed Grilles and Transom

Divided lite windows and doors offer unique architectural solutions for buildings without compromising energy efficiency or aesthetics. Doorwin provides multiple muntin and glass options to customize your divided lite windows and doors. Further customization is available with a variety of colors and materials, creating an infinite number of design combinations to best suit your style.

In this project, we use SDLS (simulated divided lites with spacer bars), these bars permanently adhere to both sides of the glass, and spacer bars are installed between the glass, this is the most energy-efficient way to create the look of classical décor grilles. The windows in the bathroom bedroom and study have an Arch Transom Design, making these rooms, which are often used by the owner, have some traditional aesthetics.
