Casement windows are a popular choice for homeowners due to their versatility, energy efficiency, and ease of operation. Andersen is a leading manufacturer of these windows, known for their quality and durability. However, accidents happen, and sometimes the glass in your Andersen casement windows may need to be replaced. In this comprehensive guide, we will walk you through the process of replacing the glass in your Andersen casement windows, step by step.

Identifying Your Andersen Casement Window Model

Before you can begin the process of replacing the glass in your Andersen casement window, you'll need to identify the specific model you have. Andersen has produced various casement window models over the years, and the process for replacing the glass may differ slightly between them. To identify your window model, look for a label or sticker on the window frame or sash, which should include the model number and manufacturing date. You can also consult your original purchase documentation or contact Andersen customer support for assistance.

Gathering the Necessary Tools and Materials

Before starting the glass replacement process, you'll need to gather the necessary tools and materials. These may include:

Safety gloves and goggles

A utility knife

A putty knife or chisel

A screwdriver (flathead and/or Phillips, depending on your window model)

A pry bar or hammer

A tape measure

Replacement glass (ensure it is the correct size and type for your window model)

Glazing compound or window sealant

Glazing points or clips (if applicable)

Removing the Damaged Glass

1. Put on your safety gloves and goggles to protect yourself from any broken glass.

2. Use the utility knife to carefully score around the perimeter of the glass, cutting through the sealant or glazing compound holding the glass in place.

3. Insert the putty knife or chisel between the glass and the window frame, gently prying the glass away from the frame. Be cautious not to damage the frame or sash.

4. Once the glass is loosened, carefully remove it from the frame. Dispose of the broken glass safely, following local regulations for glass disposal.

Preparing the Window Frame

1. With the damaged glass removed, use the putty knife or chisel to scrape away any remaining sealant or glazing compound from the window frame. Be sure to remove any glazing points or clips that may still be attached to the frame.

2. Clean the window frame with a damp cloth to remove any dirt, debris, or residue. Allow the frame to dry completely before proceeding.

Installing the Replacement Glass

1. Apply a thin, even layer of glazing compound or window sealant around the perimeter of the window frame where the new glass will sit. Be sure to use a compound or sealant that is compatible with your specific Andersen casement window model.

2. Carefully place the replacement glass onto the frame, ensuring that it is properly aligned and seated in the compound or sealant.

3. If your window model requires glazing points or clips, install them around the perimeter of the glass to secure it in place. Follow the manufacturer's instructions for the proper placement and installation of these components.

4. Apply a second layer of glazing compound or window sealant around the edge of the glass, smoothing it out with a putty knife or your finger (wearing gloves) to create a watertight seal.

5. Allow the compound or sealant to dry according to the manufacturer's instructions. This may take several hours or even days, depending on the product used.

Reassembling the Window

1. Once the compound or sealant is fully cured, you can reassemble your Andersen casement window. If you removed the sash or any hardware during the glass replacement process, reinstall these components according to the manufacturer's instructions.

2. Test the operation of your window to ensure it opens and closes smoothly and that the new glass is properly sealed and secure.

By following this comprehensive guide, you should now have successfully replaced the glass in your Andersen casement window. Regular maintenance and care of your windows will help ensure their longevity and performance. If you encounter any issues during the glass replacement process or have concerns about your specific window model, don't hesitate to contact Andersen customer support for assistance.

INSPIRATION & SOLUTION

This newly built private house is in Sydney, Australia. The area occupied by the fenestration system in our scheduled design drawings was up to more than 110 square meters. A wide range of design details made the perfect mix of modern aesthetics and traditional sophistication, the simulated vertical hung windows with tilt & turn opening systems in this home are absolutely breathtaking. SDLS (Simulated Divided Lites with Spacer Bar) brings some historical vintage feeling to the whole building without losing any energy saving performance. Long narrow fixed windows creating larger-than-life expenses, coupled with German high-end systems made this project stand out from the rest.

Simulated Hung Window with Tilt & Turn Openings

The client's idea was to maintain a certain vintage feel, and our aim was to meet the energy efficiency needs and standards of modern houses as much as possible while maintaining a retro design. Doorwin’s 61S simulated hung windows with tilt & turn openings is a respectful modernization of a classic architectural masterwork.

Why choose the tilt and turn opening method?

Because it generally has better air seals than sliding, single hung, or double hung window frames. Tilt and turn windows form a complete seal when fully closed, this means they are less prone to water leakage, and cold draughts and you’ll keep more of your heating indoors where it belongs. They can be opened in the upper tilt way to ventilate at a minimum opening status and are easy to clean outside of the glass; when there’s a good day, they can be opened as normal inward casement windows.

Large Energy Efficient Fixed Windows

Our well-crafted bespoke systems enhance the functionality and panoramic view of this modern house.

Huge, fixed glass walls up to seven meters long and two meters high bring great lighting and open views, making it really refreshing to the mind. Five meters high long narrow windows give the whole building a contemporary aesthetic.

Every window’s placement and shape not only add to the uniqueness of this home but also provide a more energy-saving ability for the owners.

Doorwin energy-efficient integrated glazing units feature double-pane glass, warm-edge spacers, argon gas fill, Low-E coatings, and fully tempered glass, they can not only create a comfortable and natural indoor environment but also save electricity bills and heating bills of more than 100 USD for the owner, it’s a real bargain compared to choosing a regular glazing set.

Custom Designed Thermal Break Aluminum Entry Door

Aluminum Door offered an air of uniqueness and elegance to a home. With their luxurious patterns and beautiful finishes, it provides this house with a bounty of aesthetics and security. Aluminum entry doors allow you to resist any weather extremes, corrosion, and pests. So aluminum is one of the most resilient and durable materials you can select for front doors considering the price/performance ratio.

With pieces of double panes, and Low-E tempered glass. The door provides a good insulation performance.

Custom Designed Grilles and Transom

Doorwin provides multiple muntin and glass options to customize your divided lite windows and doors. Further customization is available with a variety of colors and materials, creating an infinite number of design combinations to best suit your style.

In this project, we use SDLS (simulated divided lites with spacer bars), these bars permanently adhere to both sides of the glass, and spacer bars are installed between the glass, this is the most energy-efficient way to create the look of classical décor grilles. The windows in the bathroom bedroom and study have an Arch Transom Design, making these rooms, which are often used by the owner, have some traditional aesthetics.

Multi-point lock systems provide not only the burglar-resistance but also a tighter compression seam, making the window keeps good energy-efficient performance.
