The True Cost of Wood Casement Windows Installed: A Comprehensive Guide

When it comes to home improvement, one of the most significant investments you can make is in your windows. Wood casement windows, in particular, are a popular choice for homeowners due to their timeless elegance, durability, and energy efficiency. However, before taking the plunge and investing in wood casement windows, it's essential to understand the costs involved to make an informed decision. In this comprehensive guide, we will delve into the various factors that contribute to the cost of wood casement windows installed, including materials, labor, and additional features.

Materials: The Foundation of Your Casement Window Costs

The first factor to consider when calculating the cost of wood casement windows installed is the materials. Wood casement windows are typically made from high-quality wood species, such as pine, oak, or mahogany. The choice of wood will significantly impact the overall cost of your windows, as each species comes with its unique price point.

1. Pine: Pine is an affordable option for wood casement windows, with prices starting at around $200 per window. This softwood is easy to work with and takes paint and stain well, making it a popular choice for those on a budget.

2. Oak: Oak is a hardwood that offers increased durability and longevity compared to pine. However, this comes at a higher cost, with oak casement windows starting at around $400 per window.

3. Mahogany: Mahogany is a premium wood species that is known for its rich color and grain patterns. This luxurious option can cost upwards of $600 per window, making it a more significant investment.

In addition to the wood species, other materials will also affect the cost of your casement windows. For example, the type of glass used can impact the price, with double-pane and triple-pane windows offering increased energy efficiency but at a higher cost. Additionally, hardware options, such as locks, handles, and hinges, can also add to the overall price of your wood casement windows.

Labor: The Cost of Expert Installation

Once you have selected your desired wood casement windows, the next step is to have them professionally installed. The cost of labor will vary depending on several factors, including the complexity of the installation, the number of windows being installed, and the region in which you reside.

On average, you can expect to pay between $100 and $300 per window for professional installation. This cost includes the removal of your old windows, the installation of the new casement windows, and any necessary adjustments to ensure a proper fit. Keep in mind that the cost of labor can increase if additional work is required, such as resizing the window opening or repairing any damage to the surrounding area.

Additional Features: Enhancing Your Casement Windows

While wood casement windows are already an excellent investment for your home, there are several additional features that you can consider to further enhance their performance and appearance. These features will add to the overall cost of your windows but can provide significant benefits in terms of energy efficiency, security, and aesthetics.

1. Energy-efficient coatings: Low-E (low-emissivity) glass coatings can help to reduce heat transfer and improve the energy efficiency of your wood casement windows. This feature can add around $50 to $100 per window to the overall cost but can result in long-term savings on your energy bills.

2. Impact-resistant glass: If you live in an area prone to severe weather or simply want added security, impact-resistant glass can be a worthwhile investment. This type of glass is designed to withstand strong impacts without breaking, providing increased protection for your home. The cost of impact-resistant glass can range from $100 to $300 per window, depending on the thickness and quality.

3. Custom finishes and colors: While wood casement windows are already beautiful in their natural state, you may opt for a custom finish or color to match your home's decor. This can add an additional $50 to $200 per window, depending on the complexity of the finish and the type of paint or stain used.

Estimating the Total Cost of Wood Casement Windows Installed

Taking all of these factors into account, the total cost of wood casement windows installed can range from $300 to over $1,000 per window. This wide range is due to the numerous options available in terms of materials, labor, and additional features.

To get an accurate estimate for your specific project, it's essential to consult with a professional window installer who can assess your needs and provide a detailed quote. By understanding the various factors that contribute to the cost of wood casement windows installed, you can make an informed decision that will enhance the beauty, comfort, and value of your home for years to come.

INSPIRATION & SOLUTION

This newly built private house is in Sydney, Australia. The area occupied by the fenestration system in our scheduled design drawings was up to more than 110 square meters. A wide range of design details made the perfect mix of modern aesthetics and traditional sophistication, the simulated vertical hung windows with tilt & turn opening systems in this home are absolutely breathtaking. SDLS (Simulated Divided Lites with Spacer Bar) brings some historical vintage feeling to the whole building without losing any energy saving performance. Long narrow fixed windows creating larger-than-life expenses, coupled with German high-end systems made this project stand out from the rest.

Simulated Hung Window with Tilt & Turn Openings

The client's idea was to maintain a certain vintage feel, and our aim was to meet the energy efficiency needs and standards of modern houses as much as possible while maintaining a retro design. Doorwin’s 61S simulated hung windows with tilt & turn openings is a respectful modernization of a classic architectural masterwork.

Why choose the tilt and turn opening method?

Because it generally has better air seals than sliding, single hung, or double hung window frames. Tilt and turn windows form a complete seal when fully closed, this means they are less prone to water leakage, and cold draughts and you’ll keep more of your heating indoors where it belongs. They can be opened in the upper tilt way to ventilate at a minimum opening status and are easy to clean outside of the glass; when there’s a good day, they can be opened as normal inward casement windows.

Large Energy Efficient Fixed Windows

Our well-crafted bespoke systems enhance the functionality and panoramic view of this modern house.

Huge, fixed glass walls up to seven meters long and two meters high bring great lighting and open views, making it really refreshing to the mind. Five meters high long narrow windows give the whole building a contemporary aesthetic.

Every window’s placement and shape not only add to the uniqueness of this home but also provide a more energy-saving ability for the owners.

Doorwin energy-efficient integrated glazing units feature double-pane glass, warm-edge spacers, argon gas fill, Low-E coatings, and fully tempered glass, they can not only create a comfortable and natural indoor environment but also save electricity bills and heating bills of more than 100 USD for the owner, it’s a real bargain compared to choosing a regular glazing set.

Custom Designed Thermal Break Aluminum Entry Door

Aluminum Door offered an air of uniqueness and elegance to a home. With their luxurious patterns and beautiful finishes, it provides this house with a bounty of aesthetics and security. Aluminum entry doors allow you to resist any weather extremes, corrosion, and pests. So aluminum is one of the most resilient and durable materials you can select for front doors considering the price/performance ratio.

With pieces of double panes, and Low-E tempered glass. The door provides a good insulation performance.

Doorwin provides multiple muntin and glass options to customize your divided lite windows and doors. Further customization is available with a variety of colors and materials, creating an infinite number of design combinations to best suit your style.

In this project, we use SDLS (simulated divided lites with spacer bars), these bars permanently adhere to both sides of the glass, and spacer bars are installed between the glass, this is the most energy-efficient way to create the look of classical décor grilles. The windows in the bathroom bedroom and study have an Arch Transom Design, making these rooms, which are often used by the owner, have some traditional aesthetics.
