Blur Your Focus With the Edge of a Picture Window

A blurry picture window is a great way to add interest and depth to a room. Here are tips and tricks to creating a blurry picture window effect on your next project

Step 1: Sketch a rough sketch of the window in pencil. This will determine the size of the window and the amount of blurriness in your final design

Step 2: Bring a photo into Photoshop, and use an adjustment layer to add more blur to your image. Go under "Adjustments" then under "Blur." Change the settings until you get the effect you want. For example, if you want more blur than shown above, lower the radius value until it looks right. If you want less blur, raise the radius value until it looks right again

If you want even more effect than that, duplicate this adjustment layer by going under "Layer," choosing new layers from the dropdown menu and clicking on "Make Clipping Mask." This will give you two layers with different values for opacity (how much light passes through) so that they blend together nicely when overlaid with each other over your photo.
