Handy Tips for Changing a Door's Swing Direction

One of the easiest and most inexpensive ways to make your door into something special is to change the swing direction. This can dramatically change everything about the appearance of your door from its inner design, to its decor and even its function

Here are some handy tips for changing a door's swing direction

Start with the hinge side of your door. If you find that your door swings in one direction, but you want it to swing in another direction, then start by adjusting the hinge side of your door. You can adjust this by opening up or closing up your hinges until you find a place where they are at their fullest capacity for movement. This will help you determine which way your door should swing based on how far it can open or close. Once you've determined this, then use plywood or masonite board to construct an L-shaped frame that fits snugly around both sides of your doorway and attach it with screws where needed (see diagram below)

You may need additional support underneath this frame if it's high enough off the ground so that there's enough clearance between it and the floor above
